When fate offers Gwynn Powell a chance to start over, she jumps at the opportunity. Laid off and living with a husband whose gambling problem has eaten through a good part of their savings, Gwynn buys a farmhouse sight unseen, leaving both her marriage and her old home behind.

But fate has more in mind for Gwynn than just a new home. The farmhouse, tucked away in the Green Mountains of Vermont where even GPS can’t find it, is also a step back in time. And Slate Peck, the farm’s caretaker and part owner, is tied to Gwynn’s destiny in ways she never expected.

My Thoughts

I love the premise of this story.  A twenty-eight year old woman from 2013 somehow manages to find herself in 1973.  I was a teenager in the '70's and I love the idea of this storyline.  Gwynn and Slate are the perfect romantic couple.  Their romance is a sweet one.

My only problem is that this is a novella and there isn't enough time to really explore the reactions of the characters and their feelings.  I would love to see how Gwynn would deal with no cell phones or DVDs or computers.  It was mentioned in the book, but it's not the same as reading how the character really deals on an everyday basis.  Although we did get some funny scenes of Gwynn, the vet, trying to milk cows and discovering it's not so easy.

I was also a bit confused how Gwynn and Slate fit in with their ancestors and how they got to the point they were at.  I think this, also, could be cleared up with a more detailed book.  The bottom line came through though - it was their destiny.

I did enjoy the author's beautiful writing style and will be looking for more work by her.  I do like novellas, but sometimes time travel is one of the genres that is hard to fit in a short book because of all the intricacies involved.  I guess I'm leaving this review with - I WANT MORE!  Wanting more is not a bad thing!
